Online Tools for Internet Marketing

If you have a website already set up but the clicks are not producing sales, you may be scratching your head and wondering what it is you are doing wrong. Worse still, maybe you just are not getting enough hits on your site.

Perhaps your site is poorly designed and difficult to navigate. It is possible that your copy writing is completely ineffective and just does not compel visitors to choose your products or services over those of your competitors. Maybe people are only seeing your homepage and not bothering to browse through the rest of your site where the real meat and potatoes are. The true point here is that you are never going to know what is wrong with your site unless you have the tools necessary to accurately track the visitors to your site and find out what they are doing--or more importantly perhaps--not doing.

The truly innovative feature of Internet marketing is not the fact that you have access to the largest consumer market ever known in history. Nor is it the capacity to hone in on niche markets like never before. The true marvel of Internet marketing is the information gathering capabilities offered through this medium.

Of all the inventions of the Information Age, the internet is probably the most prized. Print or television advertising only tells you how many people had occasion to see your ad.

You cannot know if they read through or watched the ad. All you know is that your ad aired on a certain channel at a certain time or that a certain number of people bought the publication in which you ad was published. People may buy your products or services because they have seen or read your ad, but you won't know what in your ad caused them to buy or perhaps not to buy.

With the right online tools, however, you can track everything about a visitor when they come to your website.

You can learn where they went on your site, what pages they viewed, and even what other websites they have been to recently. By understanding the surfing habits and behaviors of your visitors, you can make adjustments immediately at little to no cost. But, once you place an ad in a newspaper or purchase air time on television, your campaign cannot be altered. It either works, or it does not. The only way to know if your campaign was successful is to see if sales improve. Even then, it is just a guess.

If you are going to get the benefits of online advertising, do not forget that the Internet is about information. This knowledge is what makes the medium so powerful and effective where advertising is concerned. Do not make the mistake of going to all the trouble of creating a website without getting software that can help you fine tune your site so that it brings in the most customers possible. If you already have the software or if you have a package that includes tracking information on visitors, use it!

Combining the size of the Internet market with its tracking advantages is a sure combination for success but you have to own and use the online tools that make this medium the most effective advertising medium in history.
