How to Select a Search Engine Optimization Company

A Search engine optimization company works on watching and optimizing the position of your search engine results. They can be a great asset to your company by providing their knowledge and expertise in this area. Before you hire a company, it's crucial to know what to look for.

Before you employ one of these companies, do your homework.

There are a number of great companies but also some terrible ones. Some companies use techniques like cloaked, doorway, and bridge pages while optimizing your search engines. A cloaked page is a hidden, coded page that finds a search engine spider and then takes it to another page, thus raising your position. Not only are these most often a violation, you could be penalized and even have your website taken off the index. Doorway and bridge pages are the same but they are usually on a separate server.

Next, get a guarantee in writing that the company won't work with the competition while they are providing services to you. You can't compete effectively for keyword optimization when the company is providing similar information to your competitors.

Ask a lot of questions, and look at their past results. They may embellish them in this case, so look around on your own.

Get specific answers about the search engines they have gotten results on, and see that they are popular ones. It's pretty simple to get high results for an uncommon word that doesn't have much competition. You want to see that they've had success with popular, highly used keywords and phrases.

Verify that their answers are truthful by contacting past clients, and get a report that shows optimal positions with popular search engines. This is also a good way to ensure that they are telling the truth about the work they've done in the past. You should get at least two references that can tell you about their experience using the company. See if it affected the way visitors use the site, and if their profit increased when using the company.

An important factor is continuous monitoring - get a report that shows a period of six months or more from different popular search engines. You need to work with someone who will constantly monitor your company's progress. You can also ask the company for a monthly report that shows exactly what they are doing for you. The report should show good results for the popular sites, not just a bunch of rankings for smaller, less popular engines. Make sure that the search engines are popular currently, too. The report should be in an easy-to-read format, organized into six months broken down each month, and information should be specific and continual, not just a bunch of statistics on a page.

Contact any references you are given, and don't take on any company that makes an excuse about giving them out. Think of some questions ahead of time, and ask the previous clients about their reliability, dealings and overall experience.

You can even ask about the changes they were advised to make to the site, and if these affected visitors to the site or profitability of the company. Remember - this is an integral part of your business, and choosing a company that's going to raise your search engine status and ultimately your profits is an important decision.
