Opening A Hidden Niche
Everyone at some time has heard the phrase, "Jack of all trades and master of none." In marketing, this type of failure is often avoided by finding your Niche. Niche marketing means you don't have to sell everything like a peddler to a vast frontier; instead, you can select a product or service in a market that will be most profitable.
On the Internet, niche market is highly effective. Since billions of services and products are sold on the Internet, you want to identify a niche that allows you to position your business in a positive way to an already existing market. You don't have to be a big Internet business to make big profits through a niche. The truth is even a small Internet business can pull in big bucks provided that business attracts the right visitors.
The recipe for building a profitable niche is to first identify an un-met need and then fill it. Even if you have great faith in your service or product, you first have to find out if a market for this business exists. But, finding an open niche is no easy task since over 50 billion websites currently sell tons of services and products. Instead, you need to look for unique ways to present a niche. This slight change in approach may make a world of difference.
You can also start your hunt for a niche by first listing your expertise. From this list, you may discover a new way to position or spin your expertise so you'll stand out from all the competition.
Unfortunately, too many niches are poorly represented or abandoned. Do some research about your niche before you launch. The easiest way to research a niche is through keywords. Make a list of keywords and synonyms that best represent your niche and study what results pop up in searches. Follow through to see if those listings are thriving. If those sites look old, ask yourself why? Perhaps they didn't present themselves well or the demand for this niche has gone sour.
If you notice a gap in this niche that those sites are not offering, perhaps you determine if your market would appreciate that hole filled. Many times, the gaps in certain niches have a lot to do with customer service. Can you offer something to this niche that would put you in a better position than your nearest competitor? In addition, you can go mining for good keywords inside many search engines. As you conduct research in a search engine like Google, either manually or by using free software like "Good Keywords" by Softnik Technologies, you can discover how many times certain phrases have been searched per month along with how many results are typically shown.
Why pursue a niche that's fully saturated or very well presented? In this case, you may want to pick an alternative niche. Entering a niche that's well covered requires lots of capital and a level of expertise that very few people can pull off. For instance, do you have the money and resources to compete with Amazon who's extremely on top of their game at this time?
Niche marketing is a highly effective way of stretching your budget and quickly increasing your revenue. By first testing your market, you can press many hot buttons right off the bat with your traffic and watch your Internet business quickly succeed.
